About
Kitchen Garden Play came about when Hay Literary Festival asked us to organise and run a load of pizza making workshops; these were so popular with children and adults alike that it lit a lightbulb and made us realise that what comes as second nature to us, is in fact unique and original; and as such we want to share the joy with as many people as possible. You can still find us as Hay Festival bringing joy and creativity to the party.

Founders: Sam, Willoughby & Sam
Willoughby was catapulted into being a children’s entertainer by the arrival of his brother, Bear when Willoughby was 10 – over a decade onwards, he is still every child’s favourite big brother.
Cousin’s week is an annual event in Sam’s family that involves 14 children of all ages and Sam has spent the last 15 years engaging in every possible outdoor activity, from crayfishing to nerf gun battles and from flower pressing to scientific experiments and discos. His day job is as the founder of Kitchen Garden Pizza; the fusion of these skills is what has led to Kitchen Garden Play.
Other Sam doesn’t have an interesting back story; he’s just worked in education and so is a pro.
In short, we know what it’s like to entertain and feed a party of 40 children and how much cooler it is if the children get to make their own food and learn at the same time.
We love unleashing all the energy and joy in children.
